Geomatics and Remote Sensing Specialist

We are looking for an innovative geomatics expert to work with our patented SkyForestTM remote sensing technology in forests across Canada and around the world. You will help us produce and deliver SkyForestTM forestry information to our industry and government clients, and put your technical prowess to work by assisting with our ongoing R&D efforts.

The position can be performed remotely but will require travel to our office in Mississauga, Ontario.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clients with satellite-based forest information with SkyForest;
  • Research and development in satellite remote sensing applied to forests to advance our SkyForest technology;
  • Produce on-time, accurate, high quality products for customers;
  • Process remotely sensed data into SkyForestTM information products;
  • Find ways to address client needs with remote sensing applications.

Specific skills for this position:

  • Masters or Ph.D. (or equivalent work experience) in geomatics, remote sensing, or physical geography with a very strong GIS component;
  • Acquisition of remote sensing data and assessing suitability for project;
  • Interpreting remote sensing metadata (bands, extent, resolution);
  • Applying methods or algorithms to process and analyse remote sensing data;
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant image processing/GIS software packages (such as ENVI, ESRI, QGIS, Sentinel Toolboxes, or other open source software);
  • ArcGIS Desktop – ArcMap, ArcCatalog, Spatial Analyst;

Preferred skills for this position:

  • Experience automating routine tasks for image processing in an appropriate programming language, particularly Python or R;
  • Statistics, R.

Desired skills for this position:

  • Remotely sensed radar data;
  • Cartography;
  • Machine learning
  • Photogrammetry, point cloud processing, LiDAR
  • Knowledgeable in using SQL and other programming languages to build queries in geodatabases;
