GIS Programmer / Applications Specialist

We are currently seeking a GIS expert to join our information management team as a GIS Programmer and Application Specialist. You will help us produce and deliver forestry information to our industry and government clients, and put your programming knowledge and technical prowess to work by assisting with our ongoing R&D efforts.

The position is in New Liskeard, Ontario. Our head office is in North Bay, Ontario with satellite offices in Mississauga and Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Our company provides sustainable forest management services on multiple management units on over 9 million hectares of Crown forest in Ontario. Our team is also producing SkyForestTM data across Canada and internationally. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support our GIS and Geomatics team with client services;
  • Produce on-time, accurate high-quality products for customers;
  • Process GIS data and imagery into derivative products;
  • Follow steps to solve GIS tasks and problems related to client needs;
  • Resolve issues raised by clients in a responsive manner.

Required skills for this position:

  • Undergraduate, M.Sc. or equivalent work experience in GIS, or geomatics with a very strong programming component.
  • ESRI software – ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcCatalog), ArcGIS Pro, Spatial Analyst;
  • Python programming and ability to develop customized editing tools in ArcGIS;
  • Knowledgeable in using SQL and other programming languages to build queries in ArcGIS, relational databases and in geodatabases;
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Access

Preferred skills for this position:

  • Ability to apply commercially available and open source software solutions and geographic information systems, (such as ArcGIS, QGIS);
  • Ability to develop customized editing tools in ArcGIS;
  • Knowledge and experience in a variety of programming languages (such as C#, C++, Java, .Net)
  • Knowledge of website creation and editing (HTML, Javascript, WordPress);
  • Knowledge and experience with various methods of file storage and file transfer (such as FTP, Amazon AWS, Dropbox)
  • Mobile development (Android, iOS, JavaScript)
