Forestry Geomatics Technical Specialist

You will help us produce and deliver SkyForestTM forestry information to our industry and government clients, and put your technical prowess to work by assisting with our ongoing R&D efforts.

The position is in Mississauga, Ontario. Our head office is in North Bay, Ontario with satellite offices in New Liskeard and Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Our team is producing SkyForestTM data across Canada and internationally. Our company also provides sustainable forest management services on multiple management units on over 9 million hectares of Crown forest in Ontario.  Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clients with satellite-based forest information with SkyForest;
  • Research and development in satellite remote sensing applied to forests to advance our SkyForest technology;
  • Produce on-time, accurate, high quality products for customers;
  • Process remotely sensed data into SkyForestTM information products;
  • Find ways to address client needs with remote sensing applications.

Specific skills for this position:

  • Masters or Ph.D. (or equivalent work experience) in geomatics, remote sensing, or physical geography with a very strong GIS component;
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience using advanced remote sensing techniques;
  • Expert knowledge and experience of relevant image processing/GIS software packages (such as ENVI, ESRI, QGIS, Sentinel Toolboxes, and other open source software);
  • Remotely sensed radar data an asset;
  • Photogrammetry, point cloud processing, lidar;
  • ArcGIS Desktop – ArcMap, ArcCatalog, Spatial Analyst;
  • Knowledgeable in using SQL and other programming languages to build queries in geodatabases;
  • Experience automating routine tasks for image processing in an appropriate programming language, particularly Python or R;
  • Statistics, R;
