The SkyForest™ Crown Coverage product provides an accurate measure of site occupancy, in other words, the fraction of each pixel that is covered by tree canopy. This is helpful for identifying areas within stands that have dense or sparse forest cover. It can also be used to identify changes in forest cover, such as recent disturbances.
In the image below, the dark purple areas represent forested areas with high crown coverage; in other words, the canopy crown covers the ground. White areas represent open areas with no tree cover.
In the map below we have classified the open areas (non-forested) according to the land classes shown in the legend on the upper right.
